Call for Papers 2012

The Human Security Initiative: A Journal of Applied Human Security and Practical Theory, a journal published by The Human Security Initiative (, calls for original papers to be published in the first issue of this online journal due out in Spring 2012.

Authors are welcomed to submit original, unpublished papers, written in English, that are not under review by another journal. Papers should contribute to the understanding of the following subjects within the context of Human Security:

  • Organized Crime and Criminal Violence
  • Human Rights and Good Governance
  • Armed Conflict and Intervention
  • Genocide and Mass Crimes
  • Health and Development
  • Resources and Environment

Submissions must be emailed as MS Word attachments, including an author biography and paper abstract, to Dr. Gregory Weeks at upon which they will be subject to review by the Advisory Board. The author will be informed within approximately one month of the submission deadline whether his or her paper has been approved by the Advisory Board.

There will be no compensation for published papers.

Expected date of publication: May, 2012

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words in length. Authors should include a 200-250 word abstract and short author biography including name and affiliation as he or she would like to see it in print. The author should additionally indicate in the subject line of the submission email how the paper should be classified according to the list above.


Papers should be submitted in an MS Word document, double-spaced in 12 point font. For specific guidelines on style and formatting, please refer to the Chicago Manual of Style. Spelling should conform to Webster‘s Collegiate Dictionary. Acronyms should be spelled out the first time they are used.


References in the submitted articles must be included in the text as endnotes with a bibliography, as in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style.
